Study Purpose

Along with diet and exercise, the addition of a weight loss medication for patients who are overweight or obese, pre-diabetic or diabetic may be effective in helping to maintain a healthy weight.

There is a need for more medications that are approved for long term weight loss maintenance. The LITE research study will assess the effectiveness of an investigational drug for people who are overweight or obese.

About the Study

Participants will visit the Pennington Biomedical outpatient clinic for a screening visit to determine eligibility for this study. Once enrolled, participants will receive study medication and visit the Pennington Biomedical outpatient clinic for 13 study visits.

Study Design

Number of Visits:

  • 1 screening visit
  • 12 study visits


  • Body measurements (height, weight, etc.)
  • Vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, etc.)
  • Blood tests
  • Pregnancy tests
  • Questionnaires
  • ECG (to test heart health)

Study Qualifications

To qualify for this research study, participants should:

  • Be 18 to 75 years of age
  • Have a BMI greater than or equal to 30 calculate your BMI OR
  • Have a BMI greater than or equal to 27 and also have an additional condition such as type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes or high blood pressure. calculate your BMI

Study Duration

Participation in this research study will last approximately 1 year.


Compensation of up to $600 is offered for the completion of this study.
